The Bitmob Featured Community Writer series focuses on you, the Bitmob community member. Usually, we dust off a writer's old articles and give them their just reward: more eyeballs. However, some of the members of our community choose to contribute to our site in different ways that don't always mesh well with our typical editorial process.
We want you to know that we appreciate all forms of creativity here; therefore, we wanted to take the opportunity to feature a long-time contributor who doesn't get a lot of exposure like our prolific writers often do. Without further ado, I give you the first Bitmob Featured Community Artist: Jan Neves.
Jan is 36 years old and currently resides in Lisbon, Portugal. He studied video post-production back before the advent of digital devices. Though the high quality of his digital art may suggest otherwise, he taught himself 3D modelling and animation while trying to pass time at work. Since then, he's generously shared his creations with us.
Jan has been with Bitmob pretty much from the beginning. He made his first post, a collection of videos featuring Sonic, Master Chief, and others, a mere three days after Shoe's introductory "Welcome to Bitmob!" message. Below are highlights of and links to the work he's shared with us over the past two years.
Plants Vs. Zombies 3D Teaser Trailer
This is one of his latest creations and easily one of the most impressive. He built upon his earlier work of a basic 3D render of a PVZ zombie and created a trailer that probably could have been labeled as "official" and still fooled most people. If we can believe the names on the comments posted on Youtube, even someone from Popcap took notice of this excellent video.
Xbox 360 Limited Edition Halo: Reach 3D Model
This is just one example of a series of 3D models that Jan created of various gaming consoles. He's also recreated the PS3 Slim, the Xbox 360 Slim, and the 3DS and NGP. They're all good enough that if I saw them side-by-side with actual photos, I'm not sure if I could tell them apart.
Jan says, "Nothing special, just me having fun."
I say, "The five years it would probably take me to recreate that would probably not be fun."
If you're as impressed with Jan's work as I've been, here is a link for you to follow to his complete list of posts.
