When Lead Producer Tanya Jessen isn't racking up skillshots in the just-released shooter Bulletstorm, she's watching anime or taking in a little ballet. Or maybe she's watching anime about ballet? Whatever the case, she's got those two subjects down pat, as I learned in this latest edition of 5 Hit Points. Find out just how well Jessen performed — and some interesting trivia about the voice actor of Bulletstorm protagonist Grayson Hunt — below.
1. Bulletstorm’s world features some particularly nasty man-eating plants. What’s the name of the giant, plumber-loving carnivorous plant found in Super Mario Sunshine and Mario Kart: Double Dash?
Tanya Jessen: I don’t know. I played a ton of Mario Kart on the SNES, but not the GameGube version….
Bitmob: The correct answer is Petey Piranha.
TJ: That’s awesome. These are awesome questions! But I’m going to get them all wrong.
Bitmob: We'll see!

2. Next question: One of the more notorious skillshots in the game is called the Nutcracker (i.e., shooting an enemy in the balls). Who composed the Nutcracker ballet?
TJ: Tchaikovsky.
Bitmob: Hey, there you go!
TJ: Ding, ding, ding!
HP Remaining:
3. OK, next question: Bulletstorm was developed by People Can Fly. In what movie did the cheesy R. Kelly song “I Believe I Can Fly” appear?
TJ: [Sings a line of the chorus.] Oh my god…it’s not Batman….
Bitmob: I’ll give you a hint: There’s a cartoon element to the movie.
TJ: I feel like I know it.
Bitmob: You’re going to know it as soon as I say it. Space Jam — the one with Michael Jordan and all of the Looney Tunes.
TJ: No! Holy crap! OK, I would’ve never gotten that. Do you remember the guy that’s married to Heidi Klum? Seal?
Bitmob: Yeah, his song was in the Batman movie. “Kissed by a Rose.”
TJ: That’s what it totally reminded me of.
Bitmob: They’re similar in that they’re equally cheesy.
TJ: Exactly.

4. This next one is a video-game question: Protagonist Grayson Hunt is voiced by Steven Blum. What shooter from last year did he also provide voice work for?
TJ: Well, he’s been in MadWorld, and he was in Call of Duty….
Bitmob: OK, so the big shooter of last year was….
TJ: Call of Duty: Black Ops.
Bitmob: All right! Nice work. I was looking up his resume because he sounded very familiar, and he’s been in 100 different games and 100 different anime.
TJ: When we hired him…I’m a big anime fan, so when he auditioned, I had my own personal reasons. “We have to hire Steve Blum. I mean, Cowboy Bebop!”
Bitmob: That’s right! He was Spike Spiegel.
HP Remaining:
5. OK, so you’re two for four. Here’s the last one: The character Ichi sports a bionic arm. Who does Nathan “Rad” Spencer actually fight at the end of the censored American version of Bionic Commando?
TJ: I don’t know. I didn’t play Bionic Commando. I knew you were going to ask a Bionic Commando question, too!
Bitmob: He fights a reanimated Hitler at the end of the game. He’s called Master P in the American version, but he still looks like Hitler. And his head explodes at the end of game — one of the early instances of gratuitous violence.
So two for five. Still, not too bad….
TJ: No, it’s terrible. I demand new questions! I’m kidding.
