Hate long reviews? Me too! Three Under 300 aims to relieve you of your hatred of reviews by giving you three bite-size morsels of reviews — all under 300 words!
Costume Quest (360, PS3) (800 points/$9.99)
Created by Tim Schafer's company Double Fine (who have decided to focus on smaller titles instead of big epics like last year's Brutal Legend), Costume Quest is a sweet little piece of game heaven. Throughout the game, you'll take on the role of either Reynold or Wren (an option at the beginning allows you to play as either the brother or the sister) as you go on an adventure to save your sibling from the candy-stealing Grubbins. Throughout the game, you'll traverse colorful Halloween-themed locales, make friends and collect powerful costumes that aid you in thwarting your other-worldly enemies and solving puzzles. The art is great, the plot is simple but extremely entertaining for the short duration, and the combat system — while a bit repetitive — provides enough of a challenge that it won't put you to sleep as you progress through the game.
Super Meat Boy (360, PC, Mac) (1200 Points/ $14.99 through Steam)
Filed under "crazy-hard", Super Meat Boy has you taking on the role of jumping, wall-climbing Meat Boy who is trying to save his girlfriend Bandage Girl from the evil Doctor Fetus. You'll dodge buzz-saws, salt, and other environmental hazards as you traverse through each level in the same fashion as classic platformers like Mega Man or newer fare like N+ which both require split-second timing and great reflexes.
Worms: Reloaded (PC, Mac) ($19.99 through Steam)
Taking an old formula, Worms: Reloaded improves upon the classic game of strategy and defense with a new coat of paint and a bit of tweaking to both the campaign and multiplayer. Create a custom team of worms and utilize weapons that range from the normal (bazookas and shotguns) to the wacky ( Concrete Donkeys and Holy Hand Grenades) as you attempt to claim victory by destroying enemy worms and the landscapes around them.
