The Xbox Live Indie Games section is quite the treasure trove of undiscovered gold. Quite literally undiscovered as most only get recognized through word of mouth and being in the spotlight as a top-rated game. Heard of Baby Maker Extreme? Probably not and it's more fun then it sounds.
But anyone with an Xbox Live account can rate these games. They don't even need to play the game! And the people from Zeboyd Games of Cthulhu Saves the World fame thinks something fishy is going on because of this leniency.
So if you've ever browsed the XBLIG section, you may have seen a game called College Lacrosse: The Video Game. The makers of the game asked their fans on Facebook to rate the game highly in order to promote its position in the top-rated games section. Meanwhile, Cthulhu Saves the World seems to have hit a sudden wall of negative reviews. Allegedly the two occurrences are related and Microsoft is investigating the issue for possible misuse.
On the off chance that the two aren't related, I guess that means college lacrosse is more interesting then an evil, interdimensional demon being forced into an ironic role reversal. Never underestimate lacrosse!
Have you rated games on Xbox Live? Do you appreciate the system or do you think some level of barrier needs to be used to determine potential raters have at least played the full version of the game? Do you even know what lacrosse is?
