I felt like there was something up with the email from Sony I got a few days ago. So I thought I'd paste it here for more opinions. Was yours different? Should I be concerned?

PlayStation(R)Network

Dear Xbox Owner Who Hasn't Touched His PS3 Since Uncharted 2:

We have discovered that between April 17 and April 19, 2011, certain PlayStation Network and Qriocity service user account information was stolen (LOL). In response, we have:

  1. Shut down the PlayStation Network so nobody can play online (not like you cared anyway);
  2. Engaged an outside security firm to conduct a full and complete investigation into how we got butt hurt by kids half our age; and
  3. We will continue to release a slow stream of contradictory information in the form of FAQs, so you are confused as to what exactly was stolen. Did they get your credit card information? Well, we can't say for sure, but we can tell you that yes, they totally did.

We greatly appreciate your patience, understanding and goodwill as we do whatever it takes to resolve these issues as quickly and efficiently as practicable.

Although we are still investigating the details of this incident, we believe that an unauthorized person has obtained the following from you:

  • Name
  • Address
  • Soul
  • Country
  • Email address
  • Shoes
  • Passwords for everything, even MySpace
  • Your bicycle
  • PSN online ID
  • Birthday
  • Hot ex-girlfriend's phone number
  • Your complete collection of Home Makeover DVDs
  • Your pants

If you have authorized a sub-account for your dependent, their shit is gone too.

While there is no evidence that credit card data was taken at this time (or is there?), we cannot rule out the possibility that it was, in fact, stolen. Since you have provided your credit card data through PlayStation Network or Qriocity, out of an abundance of caution we are advising that you pack your bags and move to India. Note: we are in no way obligated to pay your air fare as per our Terms of Service Subsection D: When Your Shit Eventually Gets Stolen Cuz We Pissed Off Hackers.

For your security, we encourage you to be especially aware of email, telephone, and postal mail scams that ask for personal or sensitive information. In short, we are aware of the Prince of Nigeria's predicament and have forwarded your driver's license and passport.

We encourage you to remain vigilant, to review your account statements like a champ and to monitor your credit or similar types of reports. It's quite possible that with your credit card's pathetic available balance that the thief was able to buy a McDonald's Happy Meal.

We thank you for your patience as we complete our investigation of this incident, and we regret any inconvenience.  Our teams are working around the clock on this, and services will be restored as soon as we decide that we give a shit about our player base. As you can tell, we at Sony take information protection very seriously and will continue to work to ensure that additional measures are taken to protect personally identifiable information. Our IT team is installing Norton Antivirus as we speak!

In the interim, feel free to panic. Also, please do not contact us if you have any additional questions.

Sincerely,
Sony Computer Entertainment and Sony Network Entertainment
