I wouldn’t blame the Call Of Duty Franchise. Heck, I wouldn’t blame Mortal Kombat when it came out. I really cannot blame anybody or anything because video games, in any way, would had to grow up in order to express the many ideas of stories and themes that haven’t been told yet. M-Rated games aren’t anything new but it is a easy thing to use for an scapegoat. Problem is that this allows other formats to be easy forgiven and excused for anything crime or tragedy that takes place. If I did have to blame anything for M Rated stuff would have to be us. Plain ole humans.

Let me explain. How many kids have seen grown up buy liquor or see someone smoke? How easy it to comprehend a governors scandal or learn the hidden secrets of family members? Hasn’t there been Mature content in news stories that are shown throughout the day that children are able to access? When reading a book or bible, doesn’t it contain a form of violence that teaches moral understanding?

A lot of questions can be presented and we all can easy give an opinion but not a definite answer. If people want to protect there children from viewing or playing M rated games, we always say that parents get involve. Yet, that is not always the case. Look into a store and see if parenting is going around when the parent is on the phone and the children or child is a bit loose in the store. Their version of a sandbox game, if you will. Look at what trouble can be cause and what M rated language that can come forth that other kids and adults can hear. Should a law be passed so that children would be protected for their interest? I mean, it is something they’re physically touchable and easy to hear.

See, M Rated games contain a context of a more mature ideas. Pass the guns and blood and violence, if a child cannot comprehend science or math in school, do you think they can comprehend the material they are seeing? M Rated games, which basically comes down to this, are first person shooters. You can include Grand Theft Auto and other sandbox games but because FPS deal mainly with guns and some type of military story, games like CoD and others like that get the blame. The people who want them banned assume or believe that these games automatically teaches kids how to kill or shoot with guns. Now, this voids out the idea of a father taking a child to learn how to hunt with a gun. Imagery Vs. Real Life. That is what it comes down too.

For someone like me who can was reading all kinds of books and understanding them, I was able to handle the content of M Rated games at a very young age. I was more into the game play aspect than the actual images I was seeing. I could play MK 2 or any other violent game but get more fulfillment out Yoshi’s Island. I could go online and laugh and enjoy myself on Halo but I could get a real challenge and excitement going through all of Jak and Daxter. My range and taste might not be the same as other people or even the younger kids that play the M rated games. I would not tell a child to experience any game depending on it’s rating but I challenge them what they got out of it. The context of story and game play. Memorable moments and parts that make everything cohesive. I ask them more about what they saw and what someone else did in the game. Beating a game is great but I when I question them about other things, I get a stared face and ughhs all the time.

So where do we go from here with the SCOTUS win for gamers? We got to keep fighting but we also got to more than just using M rated games for excuses. If a politician wants to bring up “scientific facts” than let us bring news story of politicians and other people who do real crimes and unimaginable things and present the stories and put their theories to test. We have to continue to parent and explain ratings and context. Also, we need to get these younger games to play other things. Rather they hate it or not, games are not just M rated and some of the M Rated stuff isn’t worth it or they played something similar to it. A child might be able to beat me at Call Of Duty but they wouldn’t be able to handle a single puzzle in Alundra.
