Capcom has decided that Mega Man Legends 3 was not meeting their expectations and have cancelled the game. Despite all the love the developers and fans have been pouring into the game, the game will not be getting a release in any way, shape, or form.

The Mega Man Legends 3 Project wasn't just a game but a way for fans to reach out and actively mold a game from their favorite franchise. Fans could reach out to the devs in the Developer's Room site and submit ideas that they would see in the final game.

But it seems that even though Mega Man Legends 3 was announced to the general public, its very existance was only a measuring stick Capcom used to gauge whether or not they'd go through with releasing the game, and it turns out that it didn't meet that criteria.

Nothing specific about this supposed criteria was detailed and Greg, Dev Room Liason, stated that Inafune-san's departure had nothing to do with the cancellation of the game. Fortunately, fans who successfully pitched ideas for MML3 will receive a commemorative gift to remember the project by.

I've always had a soft spot in my heart for Mega Man and despite how I feel about the later entries in the X series, Battle Network, and Star Force, I never really equated his position to be the same as Sonic (who continues to flounder to this day). But with the cancellation of both Mega Man Universe and Legends 3, things are looking a bit questionable for the blue bomber.

Good night sweet, blue prince.
