On this Friday before we stuff our faces with as much turkey as possible next week, I offer a fine selection of gaming news to shove into your mind. Enjoy!

Runic Games’ Travis Baldree revealed in a post that the developer has delayed the upcoming Torchlight 2, previously promised this year, into 2012. He wrote, "We've come to the realization, however, that getting a game of this scope up to the quality and polish level we want to achieve is going to take a little longer." We can all commend a studio whose primary goal is releasing a creative work with excellence, which stands in stark contrast to the number of games that publishers clearly rushed out the door to meet some arbitrarily decided deadline.

He continued, "Besides, you're all playing Skyrim right now anyway, aren't you? Or Battlefield 3? Or Uncharted 3? Or Saints Row 3? Or Arkham City? Or Skyward Sword? Or Minecraft? Or Modern Warfare 3? Or Dark Souls? Or Assassin's Creed Revelations?" True enough. I’m sure many of us are quite happy not to have to add to our ever-growing backlogs.

Splash Damage, who developed Brink, is working on a new project. According to Industry Gamers, "the game will be based on one of the biggest American pop-culture brands of the last 50 years." Before Brink, the studio had only worked on multiplayer components or multiplayer-focused spin-offs of id Software titles (Wolfenstein, Doom 3, and Quake Wars). Anyone want to guess what this new title could be? [via Industry Gamers]

Piranha Games’ recently re-announced MechWarrior reboot will use Crytek’s CryEngine 3. Blue’s News reports that President Russ Bullock described the development tool kit as "definitely the best choice" for Piranha. Bullock further outlined the game’s "four distinct pillars": "mech warfare, the embodiment of mech to mech combat"; "role warfare, the ability for players to customize their experience to suit their own style of gameplay"; "community warfare, the ability to let the players take part in epic combat for territorial control"; and "information warfare, an element on the battlefield that incorporates information technology to help control the fight." Dark Souls Director Hidetaka Miyazaki still refuses to reveal any clue about the game’s secretive pendant item. In an interview with Game Informer, Miyazaki deflected a pointed question about the specific, in-game thing that he suggested players take as a starting gift for their characters: the pendant. He responded:

Hm…. I am very happy to get this question because this is exactly what I expected. I am very sorry; I cannot tell you here how you use the item. I still want people to try investigating the meaning of the item. Please find it out on your own!

His answer, though, may frustrate some players just as much as invigorate the curiosity of others! [via Game Informer]
