I’ve been trying to get Nintendo to change the ending to Metroid for a few decades now. I thought I was playing as a manly man’s man before they pulled out the rug to reveal that Samus is a dainty lady. That left me sexually confounded. Retake Metroid and my gender!
News Blips:
BioWare co-founder Dr. Ray Muzyka says the Mass Effect team is working on “content” that addresses the widely criticized ending to Mass Effect 3. In an open letter to ME3 players, Dr. Ray said that his company is accepting the criticism and feedback with humility. Apparently, accepting is the first step in a recovery process that will be capped off with altering the game’s ending. “[Mass Effect 3] Executive Producer Casey Hudson and the team are hard at work on a number of game content initiatives that will help answer the questions, providing more clarity for those seeking further closure to their journey. You’ll hear more on this in April,” Muzyka wrote.
The BioWare co-founder went on to state that they will strive to maintain the “right balance” between the original artistic vision while addressing the fan feedback. This content is being developed in addition to the downloadable expansions that BioWare was working on previous to being reported to the Federal Trade Commission for making an ending that people don’t like. I can’t believe that really happened. Well, I guess this means the vocal fans have officially “retaken” Mass Effect 3….
Namco plans to make an announcement regarding Dark Souls with evidence pointing towards a PC release. A new post on the Dark Souls Facebook page reads: “An announcement is coming….” That post links to an app that is nothing but a picture of a brick wall and a request to fans to help break through said wall by clicking the “like” button. Presumably, the announcement will be made once enough people like the app. An image on the message board NeoGAF shows Australian magazine PC PowerPlay teasing its April cover story with the famous “You died” game over screen from Dark Souls. That issue will hit newsstands in mid-April, so hopefully we won’t have to wait any longer than that for the full story.
Zynga seals a deal to buy Draw Something developer OMGPOP. Draw Something is the chart-topping Pictionary clone that everyone seems to be playing. The mobile game seems to be following a path similar to Angry Birds, which is probably part of what drew (pun always intended) the attention of Farmville-creator Zynga. What’s the other part that interested Zynga? Apparently, OMGPOP is working on a spin of Farmville that heavily features rap group The Wu Tang Clan. I hope Zynga knows what they’re doing — I heard tell that The Wu Tang Clan ain’t nothing to eff with.
Publisher Activision registers ActivisionNews.com domain name. If the Internet has done anything, it’s democratized journalism. Anyone with a blog can call themselves a reporter. Activision realized that the one person with a blog could also apply to a corporation that really hopes to sell you a subscription to Call of Duty Elite. At least, that is what the name “Activision News” suggests. The company hasn’t revealed what its plans are (if it has any) for the URL. When it does, I expect the website to be a bastion of free speech fighting against the liberal video-game media that insists on vilifying Bobby Kotick. Why do you want to punish success gamejournos? The spin stops somewhere over there. [Joystiq]
