Borderlands 2

It's the slow season for game releases…but that doesn't mean we can't get excited over what's to come.

That's why we asked the amazing Facebook and Twitter followers of our parent account, @GamesBeat, about their most anticipated game yet to drop in 2012. (Spoiler: Turns out, a lot of you like Borderlands 2.)

We also asked which video game soundtracks really float your boat. And we got a wide variety of responses — tunes from NES classics, RPG epics, bombastic shooters, indie art titles, and more. Never let anyone say y'all ain't diverse.

Check out the responses below, and don't forget to follow @Gamesbeat on Twitter and Bitmob on Facebook for more articles, news, contest, and more!

Question 1: What game are you most looking forward to in the rest of 2012?

Via Twitter:

@jermaine611: Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Resident Evil 6, and the new Mario Wii U game.

@Navarin: Halo 4.

@Chronorayven: It's between BioShock Infinite and Assassin's Creed 3. Dragon's Dogma is also looking good every time I see it.

@IronGoldfish6: World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria. Also interested to see how the Civilization 5 expansion turns out. The more complex Civ gets, the better!

More of your responses after the jump.

@Kikastrophe: Borderlands 2. And I was excited for Mass Effect 3.

@budenolan: DIABLO 3!!

@UnbearableDutch: Max Payne 3 will continue the tradition of mid-year Rockstar releases that hog GOTY discussion.

@JeffGrubb: Trials Evolution! Wait…it came out when? ::runs toward nearest Xbox::

@EvanKillham: Just one? You're killin' me, Smalls. Going to have to go with Borderlands 2.

@rickcurnutte: What Evan said is the correct answer. What do we win? Oh, it's not that kind of thing? OK….

@Darkarm66: The Last Story.

@TheMadSpin: Just through June: Walking Dead, Diablo 3, Starhawk, Max Payne 3, Ghost Recon, Darksiders 2, LittleBigPlanet PSVita, Tony Hawk HD.

@chase_koeneke: Fire Emblem Awakening, though it's really just tiding me over until we get a 3DS Advance Wars.

@feitclub: Until New Darkstalkers is a real thing, my answer is BioShock Infinite. Gotta be better than 2, right?

@lisachan25: Dishonored, but in the most unlikely circumstance that GTA V is releasing this year, then GTA V all the way.

@herebejoshua: Actually, if it's really still coming out this year, I'm stoked for Tomb Raider. Anxious about the new look!

@RealDazeOfWar: My most anticipated are Darksiders II and BioShock Infinite.

@rusmclaughlin: BioShock Infinite and Assassin's Creed 3 previews sold me big-time. And hey, an original IP: Dishonored. Looks like neo-Thief.

@Jeremy_LaMont: Assassin's Creed III for sure. Every time I think I'm over the series, I dip my toe in and I'm hooked all over again.

@CooTweetBro: I'm looking forward Final Fantasy Versus XIII. Remember that game? Surprised I did. Fuck it: Borderlands 2.

@vitiosuslepos: Shamefully, Skylanders Giants

@DanShoeHsu: For me, it's a tie between BioShock Infinite and Borderlands 2. Never mind, I'll go with BioShock Infinite.

@AphelionXII: @DanShoeHsu I was about to say. Is that really a toss up? I am looking forward to Borderlands 2 though! #gameclub?

@NerdyxTimx: Borderlands 2 has my heart this year.

@EstelleBard: I am looking forward for Guild Wars 2 and Tomb Raider.

Via Facebook:

Alec Gluesing: Grand Theft Auto 5, assuming the leaked October release date is real.

Corey Motley: Hitman: Absolution.

Corey G. Cousins: Diablo 3.

James Knight: I'm with Alex — GTA 5 if it's happening this year. If not? BioShock Infinite. Can't wait for it.

Wayne Anthony Allen: Borderlands 2.

Michael Pangelina: Assassin's Creed III.

Scott Deakin: I can't decide between Diablo III or Halo 4.

Chris Winters: Assuming Atlus can localize it for 2012, Persona 4: The Golden. I'm too poor to get excited for much else games this year, but I've gotta admit, I'm pumped for Dishonored, BioShock Infinite and Tomb Raider. If I can find time and money, I'll definitely get one of these three later in the year.

Kevin Ciarkowski: Borderlands 2, Halo 4, and Steel Battalion.

Stojan Jovic: Resident Evil 6.

Brian Washington: Prey 2.

Alex Cronk-Young: The Last Guardian. Pretty please? Realistically though, BioShock Infinite and Diablo 3 should be super awesome. Excited for those.

Chrono Cross

Question 2: What's your favorite video game soundtrack of all time? Feel free to list more than one if you can't choose.

Via Facebook:

Matticus Finch: Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. There's just nothing like it. It just sounds…amazing.

Jonathan Krukoff: Day-he-tooooo-naaaaaaaaaaah.

Tom Cheng: Chrono Cross or Final Fantasy 6.

Will Gaub: Chrono Trigger or Katamari Damacy. Because they set the tone for the entire experience in each case.

Alec Gluesing: Music from The Wind Waker always gives me the warm fuzzies. :)

Raymond Fernandes: Chrono Trigger and Cross. The original Mass Effect is up there too.

Eddy Fettig: Chrono Cross. So much variety, so much detail and depth to the composition. The music fits the tone of the game's locations, sure, but it's just delightful to listen to all on its own and is a varied package of songs that pretty much all hit their marks.

Lucas Chaves Balabram Need For Speed: Underground 2.

James Knight: Without a doubt, the soundtrack from Super Mario World. Need I say more? It's fantastic.

Andrew Mehta: Mega Man 2 for the NES. =) Absolutely kicking tunes, and one of my fondest gaming memories. But, yeah…as I was playing my sister would write lyrics to the tunes, and then we'd sing songs afterwards. Definitely had to be something about the music for us to be turning them into pop songs like thatl.

Lasse Lund: Going to have to go with Chrono Cross…or Shadow of the Colossus.

Cassie Leigh Gotto: Either Super Mario Galaxy, Uncharted, or Super Mario 64.

Marc-Antoine Chabot: System Shock. So powerful and dynamic, each track being adapted to the specific level and enemy types.

Wayne Anthony Allen: Jet Set Radio Future, and by extension, Jet Set Radio, too.

Andrew Galbraith: The original Mass Effect, Sonic 2, or Lifeforce.

André Esbjörnson: Rob Hubbard's theme for Monty On The Run for the Commodore 64. Why? Because I can boot it up on my C64 and leave it at the intro-screen for hours, just listening to that tune and chillin'
(or at least until my girlfriend tells me to shut it off, since it's driving her insane).

Michael Pangelina: I've been playing Mass Effect lately, and I really dig the music in there. Recently beat Assassin's Creed 2, and I've been listening to some of that while I do work lately. But hands down my favorite of all time is Final Fantasy 8. I get super-nostalgic every time I hear it. It was my first RPG and probably the first game I actually played that had full-on orchestration as part of its soundtrack. I consider it nigh perfect. Apart from the expected epic Nobuo stuff, there's also some really chill tracks in there: Breezy, Fisherman's Horizon, and the Balamb Garden theme are great examples.

Kai Su: Final Fantasy 6, with Chrono Cross a very close second. Tina's (Terra's) Theme is just amazing — the piano rendition is my favorite piece of gaming music ever.

Pie Hacquard: Rocket Knight Adventures, Tekken games, Final Fantasy 5-10, Front Mission: Gun Hazard.

'Darren Allarde: Final Fantasy 6, Chrono Trigger, Suikoden 1 and 2, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.

Keith Doll: Xenogears and Chrono Cross. Just as awesome to listen to if you are playing the game as if you are driving in your car.

Chris Winters: Final Fantasy 10. I felt the writing was a little hammy/forced/emotionally manipulative in places, but the soundtrack managed to capture the mood of every scene wonderfully. It gave the game something akin to those audience cue cards displayed to the live audience during sitcoms that tell them to laugh, except instead of telling players to laugh (HA HA HA — I still have nightmares over that scene), it was a mixture of "cry," "feel depressed," "cry some more," and "feel bittersweet joy."

Failing that, Persona 4. The retro-ish J-pop soundtrack complimented the game's aesthetic and definitely made me feel like a hip teenager back in school when all the girls fancied me (obviously). The tracks captured the mood of the scene well all the time, and it was all very memorable, to the point that I welled up at the final boss when its orchestral epic battle music touched on motifs played in various sections throughout the game. It highlighted the finality of the battle, and that the 80 or so hours I'd spent in Inaba was coming to an end….

Joe Walker: Scott Pilgrim vs The World. Anamanaguchi did a fantastic job making a soundtrack for a modern game and making sure it pulled all the nostalgic strings.

Karli Winata: The double threat that is Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross, as has been pointed out over and over again. But I also love, LOVE, the soundtrack for The World Ends With You. Seriously. I can listen to any track in that game and have a good time.

Stojan Jovic: Call me lam,e but I really liked the Modern Warfare 2 soundtrack. I love Hans Zimmer's work. So-lame-but-good goes to Deadly Premonition. A classic for me is Final Fantasy 7; a lot of the tunes were written so well for the mood and settings in the game.

Marcin Kawa: I listen to Shenmue's soundtrack a lot when I work.

David Martinez: Nier, because I have ears. :D

Scott Deakin: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Randy Snow: Probably Hitman 2 or Hitman: Blood Money.

Jourdan Cameron: To The Moon and most of the Final Fantasy/Chrono series. Oh, and Pikmin.

Bryant Chambers: Shenmue — I don't know a game that better uses music to help tell the story vice just exist as an accompanying soundtrack. I have a feeling that Fez will have this effect on me once I play through it completely….

Via Twitter:

@AlanRappa: Jet Set Radio & Jet Set Radio future. Still rocking those tracks to this day.

@PaulUngar: Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, and Skyrim. They all suit the feel of the game and change pretty dynamically

@DanShoeHsu: The best soundtrack ever is Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory by @AmonTobinHQ. Moody, haunting…I still listen to it today.

@Under_My_Thumb: ActRaiser, Mega Man 2, Duck Tales, Chrono Trigger, Super Adventure Island come to mind.

@Jeremy_LaMont:That's super difficult. Flower was one of my favorite experiences music-wise of this console gen. But there's SO much good stuff.

@zgilly: Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 4, and Dustforce. Never played the last, but DAMN the OST is sexy.

@matthewpolen: Pokemon Red/Blue. Never has so much been conveyed by so little. Even the primitive cries of the Pokemon tell their own little stories.

@EvanKillham: Silent Hill 2. Or 3, apparently. My girlfriend is reading over my shoulder.

@EvilAvnovice: It's a tough one, so I'll go with the soundtracks to Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings of the Lost Sea and Baten Kaitos Origins.

@herebejoshua: Duck Tales for NES. No joke. It's all killer, no filler — all a perfect fit!

@andersosthus: There can only be one :) Trent Reznor with the original Quake soundtrack. It's still playing in my head. :)

@feitclub: While I could rattle off several Neo Geo games, the real answer is Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.

@lisachan25: Mass Effect trilogy and Bastion.

@TheMadSpin: Chrono Cross, Dragon Age: Origins, Little Big Planet, Tony Hawk 2, Xenogears, Fallout: New Vegas.

@UnbearableDutch: Journey is a new addition to the list. Bastion, GTA 3 and 4, Tekken Tag, and Street Fighter Alpha 3 MAX.

@budenolan:The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past! I still find myself whistling theses songs, haha.

@Chronorayven: I'd go with Chrono Trigger. Even after all these years, hearing the SNES game with only MIDI used can still convey such emotions.

@emadjiggy: Jeremy Soule (Skyrim). Michael Hunter (GTA 4). Can't think of anything else now.

@Kikastrophe: Mass Effect 3. Halo trilogy.

@IronGoldfish6: Vagrant Story has a fantastic soundtrack. Almost worth playing for that alone (though it's an awesome game anyway).

@mattmarquez: Final Fantasy Tactics, no question. The sweeping, majestic score perfectly matched the story's epic scope.

@gameswithchris: The only video game soundtracks I've ever bought are Bastion and Super Meat Boy. So I guess they are my faves.

@rusty_shackles: The Bully OST is easily my favorite overall, closely followed by Metal Slug 5, Bionic Commando ReArmed, and Space Channel 5.

@Snakester95: Machinarium has a pretty nice one.‏

@SciFriedBand: @trent_reznor with the Quake soundtrack. That was epic.

@Darkarm66: No More Heroes.

@Navarin: Jet Set Radio Future.
