Recently, Activision announced 007 Legends — an original game that will tie together six classic James Bond movies. Being the Bond fan that I am, I thought it would be fun to speculate which of the 23 films would provide the best interwoven story to be featured in the new release.
Since this is an original narrative tying into the upcoming Skyfall motion picture, it’s more than likely Daniel Craig’s James Bond will be the suave spy featured throughout the Legends title, replacing Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, and Pierce Brosnan. That decision should reinvigorate these familiar stories, making them feel brand new while still pulling on the heart strings of fans by revisiting the best villains, locales, and Bond girls from the series. It would be awesome, however, if the previous 007 actors were unlockable player models. You should get on that Activision. No need to pay me. A simple thank you in the credits will do.
It seems only natural that one movie from each Bond actor's era would be featured in 007 Legends. So without further ado, here are the top six films I would like to see in game.
1) Goldfinger
Every super villain needs money to conquer the world, so the gold smuggling plot of Goldfinger is the best way to begin the Legends storyline. Goldfinger is also the first Bond adventure with extensive use of technology and gadgets. You can’t have a good title without cool gadgets. But what's the point of having toys if you have no one to use them on? Thank the Flying Spaghetti Monster that one of the series' best baddies, Oddjob, is also in Goldfinger.
It also doesn’t hurt that one of the most iconic scenes in the franchise is where Goldfinger ties the British spy to a table and has a laser start to slowly cut it in half.
2) On Her Majesty’s Secret Service
Highly regarded among true aficionados, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service is probably the most underrated Bond flick of all time. It is also the most disliked due to the fact that it's the first Bond movie Sean Connery didn’t play everyone’s favorite MI6 agent. Nevertheless, this is still the perfect next step in 007 Legends.
The film's storyline could be involved as follows. After the super villain has all the money, he needs to unsettle the masses through hysteria. What better way to do that than to brainwash 10 beauties, call them “Angels of Death," and send them out to distribute biological warfare agents throughout various parts of the world?
3) The Spy Who Loved Me
Legends won't be complete without the most notorious villain of all — Jaws. He is one of the few larger-than-life characters in the series who could only be matched by Oddjob. The locales of The Spy Who Loved Me were also among the best in the films, especially Egypt and the pyramids. And of course, no one can forget the battle where Bond throws Jaws into a shark tank.
4) The Living Daylights
After an intense battle with Jaws, you’ll need to relax. This is where The Living Daylights shines best. Like the movie, this mission could be all about sniping and stealth. Toss in a little detective work by trying to find out who is killing MI6 agents, and you’ve got yourself an all-around solid escapade.
5) Die Another Day
It’s obvious Pierce Brosnan’s best Bond appearance is in GoldenEye, but that game has been done to death. Tomorrow Never Dies is so forgettable that I don’t remember what it’s about. And The World Is Not Enough is too hard to take seriously because not a single person, dead or alive, is convinced Denise Richards could portray a nuclear physicist. That means Die Another Day wins by default, but let’s try to flesh out the story.
During the espionage in The Living Daylights, Bond is captured and tortured as he was in Die Another Day. When traded back to MI6, he is stripped of his status for fear that he spilled the beans. So he's forced to continue his work as a rogue agent.
This stuff practically writes itself!
6) Skyfall
This one is a given since the movie was announced as part of the Legends' storyline….
There you have it. Which James Bond movies would you like to see in 007 Legends?
