Once again, E3 has come to pass, and now we’re left reeling with amazement of all the things we can’t ha… wait what? E3 sucked? Oh good that means you might actually pay attention to this week’s Vita game. Yes the Vita does indeed still exist, even if Sony seems to not care about it if their E3 conference is anything to go by.

The Vita started strong with an Uncharted game along with a Lumines game on launch date, which is then followed by… nothing. Nada. Zip. It did get Resistance: Burning Skies two weeks ago marking the first time the Vita got a retail release that wasn’t a port since the Vita came out. Four months ago. Continuing the trend of original releases, we’re getting Gravity Rush, an honest to blog new IP.
After falling from the sky, Kat wakes up without any memories and the ability to control gravity around herself thanks to a black cat that has taken upon itself to follow her around. Her power enables her to float at anytime, but more importantly, you get to choose the directionality of her own gravity. In other words, Kat doesn’t fly through the sky. She falls through it. The entire game revolves around controlling which direction she’ll be falling. It may look like she’s flying, but really she’s just falling with style. Once she hits a surface, it becomes her ground until you decide to change the gravity’s direction.
Strange monsters have besieged the city she wakes up in, and Kat has taken it upon herself to deal with them. In addition to standard melee attacks, all of which revolves around kicking, Kat can also float up into the air and quite literally fall towards the enemy feet first. This impossible jump kick understandably deals a huge amount of damage and makes the bulk of how you’ll be dealing with enemies. Somewhere Cammy just got very jealous.
Gravity Rush also has an exploration element with various doodads hidden around the open world city. These pickups can be used to give Kat new abilities and whatnot making her already impressive powers even moreso. Although one does have to wonder just how limiting this aspect might be on the Vita. It may be the most powerful handheld in the market, but it most certainly does not have the same power as a home console.
This game has already came out in Japan and reviewed fairly well. New IPs always have a harder time getting people’s attention, but given the starved nature of the Vita gamer out there, Gravity Rush stands a good change at getting some kind of well deserved attention. Happy falling!

Sick of zombie games yet? Well, everybody knows that the best way to spice up a staid genre, like zombie games, is to add cheerleaders. What? You didn’t get the memo?
Zombies have invaded San Romero High School (cute). Unlike most zombie hordes though, this horde is being led by a group of zombie lords who also happen to be into rock music. Only the cheerleader Juliet and her cute, pink chainsaw can stop them. Her chainsaw will be her primary form of attack against these zombie rock lords and their minions, and she supplements her chainsaw attacks with a series of light cheerleading attacks as well like split kicks and pompoms to the face. These light attacks seem to be a more tactical attack given how it tends to push zombies around. Use them right, and you can finish off multiple zombies with one chainsaw attack.
That’s it. What else can be said about this action game? You have zombies, a pink chainsaw, a lollipop-sucking cheerleader, zombie rock lords, developed by the ever wacky Suda 51, and a talking disembodied head of Juliet’s boyfriend dangling around Juliet’s hip. Yup, that about covers everything you need to know about this game.
Obviously this game won’t be attracting gamers looking for something a touch more sophisticated than scantily clad blonde cheerleader chainsawing zombies by the dozens, and from the looks of it, it’s not trying to either. I think I’m okay with that.

Dirt Showdown (Xbox 360, PS3)
Just can’t get enough Dirt 3? How about a more auto destruction version of it? You’re in luck, because Dirt Showdown has you covered with Demolition Mode and Knock Out Mode where you’re pushing the other cars off a platform on top of the other non-destructive modes like racing for better times. Who needs faster times when you can just T-bone them off the course?
iCarly: Groovy Foodie! (DS)
Have you been hankering for a Root Beer Tapper sequel? Of course you have! What blue blooded Americans don’t? When WayForward Technologies (Contra 4, Aliens: Infestation) was asked to make a game based off of the Nickelodeon show iCarly, surely their inner urge for a Root Beer Tapper sequel, because of their innate American-ness, surfaced as they were designing the game because what we end up with just happens to be Root Beer Tapper with an iCarly skin and something about community service. Damn you Root Beer Tapper sequel urges. Why must you surface at all the wrong times?
Metal Gear Solid HD Collection (Vita)
Last November the PS3 already got this collection with Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker whereas this one only has Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. I suppose if you must have MGS on the go…
Gungnir (PSP)
What the hell? They still make games for this system? This Strategy Role Playing Game has you playing as a boy and his magical, world altering spear, Gungnir. With it and his companions, they will change their world for the better, one isometric battlefield at a time. They face one daunting problem though. Can you find your PSP? Is it charged? Is it up to date? Hoo boy.
