Just got off from watching the entire stream, and I'd be lying if I said that Sony didn't deliver a pretty solid show at this year's gamescom. They did. In fact, it was a lot better than their E3 2012 presentation, at least in terms of showing new content and, oh, proving that the Vita does actually exist.
Let's obviously start with the good stuff first:
-
Cross Buy, or basically the "if you buy the PS3 version of [insert title], then you'll get the Vita version as well… for free!". PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale will be one of the upcoming titles to incorporate this feature, and I'm so happy that I actually pre-ordered the PS3 one not too long ago. Cool. It worked with Sound Shapes, so it's really nice for Sony to continue the trend.
-
PSone games will finally be playable on the Vita on August 28, 2012. This officially makes the Vita a powerful J-RPG system, kind of.
-
Media Molecule's new Vita game, Tearaway. Hey — I trust MM, so I'm definitely keeping an eye on this one. Speaking of those guys…
-
You'll be able to use the Vita to play LittleBigPlanet 2 on the PS3, sort of similar to — yes, it's inevitable — the Wii U. Emphasis on "sort of".
-
Walking With Dinosaurs & Disney announced for Wonderbook. Call me weird, but dinosaurs rock!
-
SCEJ has 2 new PS3 games: Rain and Puppeteer. Both look surprisingly cool:
-
The Last of Us. We get it.
And now for the bad:
-
They didn't announce or talk about the rumored PSThree, a.k.a. the slimmer PlayStation 3. I was really hoping they would.
-
No price drops or whatsoever.
-
Soul Sacrifice wasn't presented, yet again. Speaking of major Japanese developed games…
-
The Last Guardian, where were you?
Finally, the ugly:
-
Those PS3 Essentials cover arts look hideous.
-
Raiden wasn't officially revealed in the latest PS All Stars trailer. Sure, a nitpick, but hey — I'm a fan, and it would be rad to see him duking out with DmC Dante.
-
Aside from the 2 new SCEJ IPs, Sony also announced a new PS3 (move) title: Until Dawn. It looks pretty "meh" if you ask me.
-
The Vita Black Ops game looks a lot… like a Call of Duty game with, presumably, 30 frames-per-sec and Wii-like visuals. I could be wrong though.
-
The Last Guardian, where were you!?!?
…you know, come to think of it — that was a really good show. Good job, Sony overlords.
