Aaah. Smell that folks? It’s the sweet, sweet smell of fresh consoles and games galore. E3 is usually a great showcase, but this year is monumental.

With Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony all prepping and respective game developers ready to unveil what they can do with new hardware, it makes me all warm and fuzzy. Not the kind of warm and fuzzy a nice wool blanket provides, but the kind where I know I’m going to be giddy with chills.

I’ve been awfully quiet about the PS4 and Xbox One unveils. Sure, we’ve heard about the “always online” Xbox One and the restrictions on used games. Though Microsoft followed up with another press release – we, the consumers felt sold short…and confused. Strange policies and rules flew at me like a barrage of hailstones.

The PS4 on the other-hand was met with warm reception. I don’t know. Color me puzzled but I think it’s because I actually saw some games. Sure, Microsoft showed a few games…after all the hubbub of watching The Price is Right on the thing. But they weren’t anything spectacular. They were just games we were expecting.

And that’s why I’ve been holding my tongue.

We as gamers sometimes forget those hunky boxes of hardware were meant for, well, games. Duh. Analyists have said that the console generation of gaming may soon be dead. They as console developers want to ensure that that skewed vision is nothing but mere speculation – and instead ensure that their consoles are their own definition of “next-generation” gaming. After all, it’s easy enough to say “PC GAM1nG 4EVR,” right?

Keep in mind guys that this is the longest time in a while between console generations (a 7-8 year gap for each respective console) There was a recession that caused the industry to go a little stagnant. If these console developers aren’t going to be making big steps during E3, then I wouldn’t know what to make of life anymore.

But in all seriousness, put down the torches and pitchforks – let’s wait a few more days.

So let’s agree to disagree for the greater good. Any particular games you guys are interested seeing at E3?
