I have a cousin who majored in Creative Advertising at Michigan State – and he’s told me that typography is how brands make their product distinguishable. And there’s something about The Evil Within’s choice of font that I can’t quite put my finger on.
Now I’m no typographist, but the logos look eerily similar.
Shinji Mikami (the creator of the Resident Evil series) is releasing the much-hyped survival-horror game The Evil Within as his first game under new studio, Tango Gameworks. But it seems like ol’ Mikami over there is overseeing more than just game mechanics. Marketing is a huge deal in the video game industry. By using a throwback font to his debut-days, it feels like he’s promising a revelation in the survival-horror genre.
And Shinji Mikami, I’ve never been more excited. You haven’t made soiling my pants in the middle of the night sound appealing since the “magic mirror” interrogation room in Resident Evil 2.
The Evil Within has an anticipated release date of 2014 for the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and (breathes out) and PC.
