Wii U IwataGuys, I’m truly astounded. I don’t know how to react to this statement said by Nintendo President Satoru Iwata at a conference held in Osaka, Japan last week.

“We haven’t been targeting children enough.”

Excuse me? Hold on a minute. Let’s take a moment to absorb that statement. They think not targeting to children is the reason their console is failing horribly? Are they really that out of touch?

Nintendo is currently reevaluating their strategy in order to try to save their failing home console, the Wii U. Things are looking grim at this point.

Nintendo launched the Wii U in November 2012, and has since only sold 5.86 million consoles, while Microsoft’s Xbox One and Sony’s PlayStation 4, which were released in November 2013, have sold 3 million and 4.2 million consoles respectively.

Since the Wii U is struggling to stay afloat, President Iwata has announced that he will cut his salary in half for the next five months, while other Nintendo board members will see a pay cut between 20 and 30 percent.

What are your thoughts on Iwata’s statement? Personally, I think Nintendo is extremely out of touch and needs to bring in some new blood to help them figure out how to save their brand.
