Another company has joined the Node.js parade.
On Tuesday, enterprise-focused NodeSource announced its launch into this hot category, offering Node.js tools and expertise.
“There’s a shift in enterprise IT,” cofounder and CEO Joe McCann told VentureBeat, and that shift is “unbundling the monolith software packages [at many companies] that has stifled innovation.”
Node.js, he said, is a highly versatile approach to development that can help stimulate innovation. For example, he said, Node allows a developer to “have a functioning web server in five lines of code.”

As a platform that uses an open source JavaScript engine, Node.js is being praised because of its speed, scalability, and efficiency. Written in the common JavaScript, server-side Node.js applications can run directly in a Node.js runtime on a variety of popular OSs.
In its launch announcement, NodeSource pointed to Node’s growing popularity among enterprises and noted that there were zero crashes or downtime from Node-based applications during a key Walmart battletest, last Black Friday.
NodeSource is initially offering two tools, npm Plus and N|Ship. npm Plus node package manager, a registry where developers can publish and share modules, is being offered by NodeSource in partnership with npm Inc. “We also have a set of managed services behind it,” McCann told us.
N|Ship, now in private beta, is NodeSource’s deployment solution. McCann also pointed to his company’s “incredibly tenured and experienced team that has been working for the past four years with Node at massive scale” for Fortune 500 companies.
As for his own company’s scale, McCann said NodeSource intends to operate as a fully decentralized company with “no centralized HQ” but with developers distributed worldwide and an open Airbnb account for their use.
