Amazon Web Services continues to flesh out its new cloud-file sharing service, Zocalo, to compete with companies like Box. Today Amazon is announcing that users can enable their Zocalo desktop application to keep on-hand the latest available version of files sitting in folders to which they’ve been given access.
Current Zocalo users can turn on the feature in the preferences section of the application; people who install Zocalo in the future can select the “Sync all files and folders from Zocalo” option during the setup process, according to a blog post today from Jeff Barr, chief evangelist for Amazon Web Services.

For instance, a similar feature is in the works for Microsoft’s OneDrive file-sharing service, according to the UserVoice page for that product.
More broadly, a full-featured Zocalo service can help Amazon diversify its public cloud portfolio, where currently raw compute power and data storage in the cloud are popular. Competitors in that business include Microsoft Azure and the Google Cloud Platform.
