Tech companies Facebook, Microsoft, Rackspace and Google are among those headlining or hosting developer events for the second annual DeveloperWeek Conference & Festival 2014 in downtown San Francisco. The event is taking place this week, from now until Friday.

Cementing San Francisco’s and the festival’s status as the center of the global developer community, DeveloperWeek 2014 invites industry leaders and developers from the Bay Area and beyond to attend over 25 developer- and technology-focused events around the city.

The festival kicked off on Saturday and Sunday with the Rackspace-hosted DeveloperWeek Hackathon, and the Tagged-hosted Developer Hiring Mixer (today). Terra Gallery will host the festival headquarters for the two-day DeveloperWeek Conference + Expo (Tuesday and Wednesday), where over 100 speakers from over 60 sessions and over 40 exhibitors will showcase the newest, hottest developer technologies. Twenty-five-plus partner events are on tap throughout the week, with companies such as Google, Yelp, Facebook + Parse.com, Evernote, Eventbrite, and Gnip hosting them.

More than 2,500 people are expected to attend the conference and expo, with many more attending partner events.

“DeveloperWeek is not a traditional developer conference; it is a convergence of industry executives, entrepreneurs, hardcore full-stack developers, and recent grads who all share one opinion — programming is the skill of the 21st century. That’s why we’ve empowered dozens of Bay Area companies and community organizations to host events on the topics they care about,” said Geoff Domoracki, the CEO and cofounder of Data 2.0, the producers of DeveloperWeek.

DeveloperWeek gives every developer, executive, and investor a landscape view of the newest developer technologies, important trends, and key strategies: HTML5 and Javascript, Python and data science, and OpenStack technologies and app monetization (among many others). Attendees may demo brand-new developer technologies such as Koding, Firebase, Famo.us, OpenStack, Docker, CodeWars, with more launching onstage at the DeveloperWeek conference.
