SAN FRANCISCO – At today’s big Google press event, we got wind of a developer preview for Chromecast.
Chromecast is a Roku-like stick that lets folks stream content from a mobile device or laptop to a TV screen. Right now, YouTube, Google Music, and Netflix work as Chromecast apps, and Pandora is coming soon to the platform.

As of today, there’s a Google Cast SDK to enable interactions between devices and TVs. The SDK will let you start casting your content with a few modifications rather than requiring you to rebuild the app from the ground up.

From the Chromecast launch site:
To ensure a great Chromecast experience over time, we’ve built Google Cast, a technology that enables developers to build consistent, intuitive multi-screen experiences across mobile devices and TVs. Today, we’re launching a preview version of Google Cast. A handful of early developers are already working on enabling Google Cast technology in their apps, so more supported apps are coming soon.
Libraries for Android, Chrome, and iOS are launching today along with the SDK developer preview.
“The Chromecast device is the first to implement this technology, but over time, we expect the technology to be embedded in a range of devices from our partners,” said the Chromecast lead, VP Mario Queiroz, onstage today.
Chromecast is compatible with Chrome apps on all platforms as well as Android and iOS applications.
