Google launches Cloud Console for Android, says iOS version coming next

Google today announced the beta launch of Cloud Console, a new Android app for monitoring the Google cloud infrastructure that developers’ applications rely on.

It’s available today in the Google Play Store, and a version of the app is coming soon to iOS, product manager Michael Thomsen wrote in a blog post on the news today.

The Android version shows an estimate of the amount of money being spent in the current month on the Google Cloud Platform — whether with Google App Engine or Google Compute Engine. It also displays charts on network performance and the status of compute instances an application is using. And it lets developers acknowledge, resolve, and comment on incidents affecting their apps.

This is another way Google is maturing its cloud infrastructure offering to compete with the likes of market leader Amazon Web Services and growing contender Microsoft Azure. Amazon, for its part, has the AWS Console app available for iOS and Android devices.

Google competes on many other fronts than just mobile-friendly cloud monitoring. But this makes the experience of tracking cloud operations just a tad bit easier.

Google has been steadily rolling out monitoring tools for its public cloud in recent months, especially after the 2014 acquisition of Stackdriver.
