Microsoft is almost definitely in the process of acquiring 6wunderkinder, the Berlin company behind popular task-management app Wunderlist, a source familiar with the matter told VentureBeat today.

The source understood that Microsoft could pay less than $250 million for 6wunderkinder.

German magazine Manager originally reported yesterday that the companies were in talks about a deal.

Also yesterday, 6Wunderkinder announced a deep integration of Wunderlist inside of Sunrise, the calendar app that Microsoft acquired earlier this year. An alert on the new integration inside of Sunrise today concluded this way:

Wunderlist’s service could be a useful addition to several applications Microsoft offers to consumers and businesses. Of course, there are several other task management apps available, but many have praised Wunderlist’s simplicity.

The deal would follow Microsoft’s acquisition last year of mobile email startup Acompli.

6wunderkinder started in 2010. In 2013, the startup announced a $30 million funding round. Investors include Atomico, Earlybird, Sequoia Capital, and T-Venture. Wunderlist, which is available on Windows and several other platforms, had more than 11 million users as of February.

Microsoft declined to comment on rumors. A 6wunderkinder spokeswoman had nothing to share.
