Narrative announced today the launch of its Open Platform, a hub providing access to an open API for third-party developers. With this availability, the company is looking to develop an ecosystem around its products, including the wearable camera, the Narrative Clip 2.

“The applications we have built for the Narrative Clip are all tailor-made to fit an everyday use case, and that will continue to be our focus,” said company CEO Martin Kallstrom. He believes the Open Platform will empower anyone to use Narrative’s devices for other uses just by building applications to support their needs.

Narrative’s Open Platform gives developers access to the company’s data to use in their applications, a Narrative Clip 2 device, an uploader API to facilitate uploading photos and videos from any device, and sample applications to get you started. In the future, the company said that more features will be available, including a Bluetooth SDK, a Narrative app that prompts photos to be sent to third-party services, and documentation on how to embed content to blogs, websites, and Facebook.

If you’re interested in customizing your Narrative device, the Open Platform also provides design files to help you best make the aesthetic tweaks you want. Make your own sticker, custom mount, jewelry, and more.

Started in 2012, Narrative specializes in wearable cameras and intelligent image analysis. Its Narrative Clip 1 and 2 devices can be affixed to your person or any other object and will give you “searchable and shareable photographic memory.” Every minute, the camera snaps two pictures using a 5-megapixel camera so you’ll be able to relive the day’s moments.

But Narrative isn’t the only game in town with this technology, as wearable cameras have been in the market for some time. However, each company is targeting a different market; GoPro, for example, markets to sports and outdoor activities. While other cameras may hold more features, Narrative’s are compact and inconspicuous, so the images that are captured could be more natural.

Examples of Narrative’s API use include developing an editing tool for your favorite photos, an Apple TV app, and embedding a moment captured from your Clip device onto your website.
