Dropbox acquires A/B testing startup Predictive Edge

Another week, another Dropbox acquisition — seriously, when will it end?

The file-storage company has acquired Predictive Edge at undisclosed terms, and it’s shutting down the A/B testing startup immediately, according to the company’s website. The team will join Dropbox and work on non-A/B testing projects.

This is the latest startup acquisition from Dropbox in the last several weeks. The company acquired data analytics startup Parastructure, cloud security startup MobileSpan, and messaging startup DropTalk in June alone.

Predictive Edge’s tools enabled marketers to test and optimize their online commerce activities, much like website A/B testing. “Our approach focuses on the personalization aspect [showing the right person the right offer at the right time] rather than simply being an editor for landing pages,” the company wrote in an email to VentureBeat this past March.

Predictive Edge is joining forces with Dropbox! Going forward we’ll be focused on solving problems outside the world of A/B testing. As of today, you can no longer sign-up for our service, and we’ve informed current customers that our product will no longer be supported. Many thanks to you all for your feedback & support, and here’s to a new chapter!

Predictive Edge was founded in 2010 by Kevin Liu, Steven Wu, and Marty Hu, and it launched this past March. It participated in Stanford University’s StartX and previously raised $400,000 from angel investors, including Nat Turner and Zach Weinberg from Invite Media and Great Oaks VC.

We’ve reached out to the company and will update as we hear more.
