VoltDB gets $8M

VoltDB has raised $8 million in new funding, the company announced today. That means it will be able to push its database into far more IT shops around the globe. VoltDB’s database stores relational data in server memory to ensure transactions happen fast, before storing it all on disk for the long-term. It’s one of several companies that have taken on funding lately while pitching storage of data as quickly as possible. Others include MemSQL and Splice Machine. Read more on VentureBeat.

Boxfish closes $7M

TV discovery startup Boxfish has raised a fresh $7 million round of funding, the company announced today. Boxfish uses the real-time closed captions found for pretty much every show on broadcast and cable to help you discover new TV content. Its technology is being used by over 100 developers to enhance TV guide-like features in cable boxes and smart TVs. The startup works with a handful of well-known TV providers including AT&T’s Uverse and Tivo. Last year the company released an iPad app that sought to remake the TV Guide experience. Wise.io grabs $2.5M

The founders of Wise.io first developed their machine learning technology to help astronomers discover and categorize new stars. Now they’ve adapted it to help businesses identify important events in their data. The Berkeley, Calif.-based startup announced today $2.5 million in new funding and a new chief executive with experience in data analytics, Jeff Erhardt. Read more on VentureBeat.
