Artificial intelligence company Vicarious raises another $12M

Union City, California-based Vicarious is raising a significant new round from ABB Technology Ventures and others, just months after closing a $40 million series B. The round totals $12 million, Vicarious co-founder D. Scott Phoenix told VentureBeat. A filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission also reports that figure.

Code-testing startup Shippable looks beyond the cloud, gets $8M

Shippable, a Seattle-based startup with tools to help developers deploy correctly functioning code fast, has landed an $8 million funding round. The new cash, announced today, will help Shippable develop its capabilities beyond just testing code in a cloud. Madrona Venture Group led the round. Vulcan Capital, Divergent Ventures, and Founders’ Co-Op also participated. To date Shippable has raised $10.1 million.

Y Combinator-backed Zen99 raises $2.5M to save freelancers from HR hell

San Francisco-based Zen99 wants to make the bookkeeping process simple for contracted and freelance workers. The startup raised $2.5 million from Upside Partnership, Collaborative Fund, Y Combinator, SV Angel, CrunchFund and others.

Parenthoods’ online community raises $1.32M

In 1999, online forum UrbanBaby sprung up and quickly caught the attention of the wealthy mothers of New York City, who used it to anonymously vent, gossip, and swap important advice such as the ethical limits of bribery to get their kid into private school. While the site that once employed Tumblr founder David Karp is best known for its users’ specialized culture, Y Combinator-backed Parenthoods is building a fresher alternative with its mobile-based community for parents. And today, along with rolling out a search feature, the startup is announcing that it has raised $1.32 million in seed funding.
