Hiring processes can be a pain for both the recruiter and the applicant. Dozens of people apply for one position, and resumes do not necessarily reflect the applicants’ skill sets. San Francisco startup ProSky found an opportunity in this flaw and stepped in to design a hiring solution in which companies can train, test-drive, and hire new talent.
ProSky announced today that it raised a $2.3 million seed round led by Lightbank to further develop its product and invest in marketing.
The model offers applicants two paths. They can either go through training sessions to acquire or enhance the skills required by the employer, then take on a three-week project for the company, and then move on to the hiring process; or they can skip the training.
During those company projects, the applicants take on a role to demonstrate if they are ready for the offered position. ProSky said that those applicants are in constant communication with the project manager, who is in charge of recruiting, through chat. Whoever qualifies for the position is hired, whoever is not can move on to other projects.

ProSky said that those who take the classes prior to projects have a greater chance to get the job.
The hiring service charges a “small fee” for training; however, the applicant can get up to $150 back if they get hired. ProSky’s CEO Crystal Huang said that 76 percent of jobs seekers get hired upon completion.
Since most of the applicants come from partnered prestigious universities, Huang said that they are looking into expanding their partnerships with more state universities and two-year colleges.
The CEO also told VentureBeat that the company is looking into raising $20 million in its series A.
