Business communications should be just as easy and convenient as the personal cell phone plans and services you buy, says SendHub.

The Y Combinator-backed startup has been putting companies’ phone systems in employee phones for the past three years, and today it announced it has raised a new $5 million in funding to continue building out its products.

SendHub got its start as a messaging services for businesses that was built on top of Twilio’s voice service, enabling companies to communicate with their customers, for teachers to reach their students (SendHub’s original idea), and so on.

But a year ago, the startup rebuilt its approach, and since then has added conference calling, an Android app, SendHub user to SendHub user unlimited calling, group features, and even its own voice call service, Voice V2, among other services. Now SendHub wants to handle all of your company’s communications.

Bullpen Capital led this new round, with Kapor Capital, Menlo Ventures, Seraph Group, and Eric Ries also chipping in.

SendHub was found in late 2011 by Garrett Johnson, Ryan Pfeffer, Ash Rust, and John Fallone and is based in Menlo Park, Calif. The company previously raised $5 million in seed and institutional funding. It was part of Y Combinator’s Winter 2012 batch.
