Not even the packaging industry is without innovation these days. For example, Smart Skin Technologies just secured a fresh $3.9 million round of funding for its package sensor tech.

Smart Skin’s Quantifeel DRONE is a combination of both hardware and software that measures pressure of packaging and bottling products to make sure things are sealed properly. The company’s clients include six of the top 10 largest beer brands in the world.

The startup said it plans to use the fresh capital to further develop its packaging skin product and increase the number of customers it can take on. The round itself was led by Rho Canada Ventures, Build Ventures, and GrowthWorks Atlantic Venture Fund, with participation from East Valley Ventures, the New Brunswick Innovation Foundation and others.

Founded in 2009, the Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada-based startup has raised a total of $5.4 million in funding to date.
