If you’re a Gears of War superfan, here’s a good excuse to pick up the new August 25th-released Limited Edition bundle: it’s on sale. Just yesterday Monoprice began selling excess units on its eBay outlet store page for $309.99 – a rare $40 off an Xbox One. On its own retail website, the console still retails for $349.99, so the eBay storefront may be a way to work around the MSRP.
- Xbox One Gears of War: Ultimate Edition 500GB Bundle — $309.99 at Monoprice (list $350)
- Free shipping in the continental US
- 500 available in stock (almost 300 sold already)
In addition to the Monoprice drop, two other retailers are trying to offload GOW Bundles with bonus incentives. Walmart is tossing in 2 free games for your patronage. Granted, the list of additional free games at Walmart is only three deep, but all three are somewhat recent releases: Evolve, Destiny, and Devil May Cry: Definitive Edition.
The other retailer in the mix is Amazon, offering the bundle for $349 flat and tossing in a bonus $50 credit towards a future purchase. Amazon’s offer is excellent, but the credit does have an expiration of before the end of day on 12/31/2015.
- Walmart: Xbox One Gears of War: Ultimate Edition 500GB Bundle — $349 + 2 Free Game of your choice
- Amazon: Xbox One Gears of War: Ultimate Edition 500GB Bundle — $349 + $50 Amazon Credit
These deals are set to run through this week only. Depending on how you look at it, the savings you get in either of the alternative bundles is maybe even better than the $40 off offer from Monoprice. The $50 Amazon gift card is obviously $10 more than the $40 off you from the Monoprice deal. Depending on which games you choose, the Walmart free games bundle nets you a $40 – $60 value.
If you’re not familiar with what’s in the Xbox One Gears of War: Ultimate Edition Bundle, just think everything Gears of War. The main draw is a free copy Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, which is basically the original Gears of War game remastered in 1080p. You also get access to the entire Xbox 360 Gears of War Collection to play on the Xbox One if you play the Ultimate Edition at least once on Xbox Live before 12/31/2015. Furthermore, you gain the Gears of War 4 Beta, which is expected to go live in the spring of 2016.
Is it worth buying the Xbox One Gears of War: Ultimate Edition before the holiday season’s inevitable discounts? That’s actually a tough question to answer. If you just want an Xbox One as cheap as possible, you can wait for Black Friday for an inevitable drop in price or great bundle offer. However, if you want the GOW bundle on Black Friday, you may want to snatch one up now.
For those willing to wait, you’ll find the bundle either significantly discounted as retailers try to unload, or more likely you’ll find Black Friday discounts on the newer Xbox One holiday bundles, and this GOW bundle will be virtually sold out. When sold out, the bundles tend to be sold on eBay with a semi-increased price from 3rd party retailers. Your call, but we think the deals look pretty attractive right now, especially for only a few weeks after the bundle’s release.
