Nintendo is struggling. It’s poised to lose more than $200 million in net income for the year, but the company shouldn’t blame gamers in Japan.

Famitsu, a weekly Japanese gaming magazine (via the message board NeoGAF), revealed the 100 best-selling physical games of 2013 in Japan. Nintendo had a strong showing, with the 3DS handheld dominating the chart. The Wii U performed also performed well. Nine of the top 10 games were on Nintendo systems. The PlayStation 3 version of Grand Theft Auto V was the only game to crack the top 10 that wasn’t on a Nintendo platform.

  1. Pokémon X and Y (3DS)
  2. Monster Hunter 4 (3DS)
  3. Animal Crossing: New Leaf (3DS)
  4. Friend Collection: New Life (3DS)
  5. Dragon Quest VII: Fighters of Eden (3DS)
  6. Puzzle & Dragon Z (3DS)
  7. Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon (3DS)
  8. Grand Theft Auto V (PS3)
  9. New Super Mario Bros. U (Wii U)
  10. Wii Party U (Wii U)

This list only tracks physical carts and discs. It does not take digital sales into consideration.

While 3DS software bunched up at the top, PlayStation 3 games were nearly as prominent throughout the rest of the list. Of the top 100, 36 are 3DS games, and 34 are PlayStation 3 titles.

The rest of list is made up of 10 PS Vita releases, 10 for PSP, seven for Wii U, two for Wii, and one for DS. The Xbox 360 did not have a single game in the top 100. The American console is not popular in Japan.

In case you’re wondering why no PlayStation 4 or Xbox One games made the list, neither Sony nor Microsoft released their latest home systems in Japan in 2013.
