Gaming’s Angry Birds are teaming up with Optimus Prime to fight off the evil piggies, who will now posses the power of Megatron.
Developer Rovio and toy company Hasbro announced today that they are partnering up for Angry Birds Transformers. This collaboration will have Rovio producing a new mobile game based on the mashup while Hasbro makes its own product line featuring transforming Angry Birds. Rovio has previously done a deal like this for Star Wars, which means Angry Birds has now teamed up with two of the best-selling toy brands in the world.
Rovio didn’t share when we can expect the new mobile game. It also didn’t specify the platforms it will debut on.
“We’re really excited to combine the iconic Transformers universe with the quirky world of Angry Birds” Rovio chief marketing officer Blanca Juti said. “This mash-up is going to appeal to those who grew up with the brand in the ’80s, as well as fans of the brand today.”
This also isn’t the first time that Hasbro has made crossover toys for its Transformers brand. The company also mashed up Star Wars and Transformers toys for a crossover product line that had Darth Vader turning into a TIE fighter, for example.
In addition to the mobile game, Hasbro and Rovio will use this opportunity to introduce more interactive toys called Telepods. These action figures will connect with the mobile game to unlock special features similar to how the popular Skylanders franchise works.
“Angry Birds Transformers provides fans worldwide with a fun, new story and characters, and innovative ways, like our Telepods platform, for consumers to engage with the brand” Hasbro CMO John Frascotti said. “We collaborated with Rovio to create opportunities for kids and families to experience Autobirds and Deceptihogs across multiple formats and entertainment platforms, for a completely immersive branded experience.”
