Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate goes to London and ditches multiplayer

It’s that time of year again.

Ubisoft releases at least one new Assassin’s Creed game a year, and now we know a lot more about this year’s installment in the open-world series, which should hit PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on Oct. 23. Titled Syndicate, the new game takes place in London during 1868 and has you playing as twins Jacob and Evie Frye. Yes, Evie is a woman, so that takes care of Unity’s gender problem.

Speaking of Unity, which included a four-player co-op mode, Syndicate is backtracking and only focusing on its single-player campaign. That also means no competitive multiplayer, which has been a staple in the series since 2010’s Brotherhood. However, considering how many technical issues Unity had at launch, it makes sense for the developers to focus their resources this time.

True to Assassin’s Creed norm, you’ll meet plenty of period-appropriate historic figures, including Charles Dickens and Charles Darwin. You’ll also get to deal with that whole Industrial Revolution thing.

A PC version of Syndicate will come out later in the fall.
