Classic-style PC role-playing games came back big last year, and it’s a trend that is continuing into 2015.
Developer Beamdog revealed more about its upcoming codenamed game “Adventure Y.” The studio confirmed the release is due out later this year and that it will take place between Baldur’s Gate and Baldur’s Gate II. Yes, that means it will use the beloved Infinity engine that BioWare and Interplay put to such great use back in the late ’90s and early 2000s. After releasing Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition in 2012, the Enhanced Edition of the sequel in 2013, and Icewind Dale last year, Beamdog is ready to break out with something new.

Scott went on to explain that Adventure Y will “bridge the gap” between the previous Baldur’s Gate releases, but the studio says it won’t share much else about the game until later this year.
“Keep an eye on the Beamblog in late spring for announcements regarding the content and release date of Adventure Y,” wrote Scott. “We have an exciting release planned for this game, something bigger than we’ve ever done before.”
In addition to Adventure Y, Beamdog is also working on another project that it calls Project: Beartrap. Again, the studio is keeping details about the game quiet.
“Right now all we can say about Project: Beartrap is that it exists and it’s a departure for us in terms of what we’ve done in the past,” wrote Scott. “Also, the project might involve sharks. Maybe we should call it Project: Sharktrap? Either way, we’re looking forward to giving you more details midyear.”
Finally, Scott said that Beamdog is getting a ton of interest from fans about potentially doing a video game based on Dungeons & Dragons new edition as well as Baldur’s Gate III.
“We’d be lying if we said we never think about doing a Baldur’s Gate III game, so we won’t say that,” wrote Scott. “But we will say there’s nothing in the works yet regarding BGIII or a 5th edition game. That doesn’t mean the opportunity will never arise, though, so we’re preparing by starting a tabletop 5th edition Dungeons & Dragons game here in the office.”
