We’ve reached peak rogue-like, and it is beautiful.

Developer Stormcloud saw its newest game Brutal take the stage at the PlayStation Experience fan event today. This is a new rogue-like that takes the original Rogue’s ASCII graphics and makes them three-dimensional. Now, your character can hold an “@” symbol and use it as a shield. The game is due out for PlayStation 4 in 2016, according to Sony.

We’re living in an era where dozens of developers are implementing “play until you die and then restart” mechanics that the original Rogue pioneered, but no one has updated the original game so directly. We’ll have more on Brutal over the weekend.
