Microsoft doesn’t want to give you any more reasons not to buy its next-gen Xbox One console. That’s why the company today announced the Season Pass Guarantee program.
The Season Pass Guarantee ensures that gamers who purchase a downloadable-content season pass for an Xbox 360 game will automatically get access to the same season pass for the Xbox One version of the game. For example, Activision will release a version of Call of Duty: Ghosts for Xbox 360 and Xbox One. If someone first buys the game and its season pass for Xbox 360, they can later upgrade to the Xbox One version and their DLC will automatically carry over.
“Some of the biggest publishers, including Activision, Electronic Arts, and Ubisoft, are lined up for the Season Pass Guarantee program, offering season pass content you can’t find anywhere else for blockbuster titles in 2013 and 2014,” reads an Xbox blog. “You’ll be able to access exclusive season pass content on anticipated titles like Call of Duty: Ghosts and Battlefield 4 on both Xbox 360 and Xbox One.”
Microsoft clearly wants to remove any barrier that might keep a consumer from upgrading to the Xbox One. This is just one consumer-friendly way of accomplishing that. Of course, you’ll still have to buy two versions of the game to access the DLC, so it’s not a perfect system.
