Of course, you’ll have to jump through a few hoops. 3DS owners who tie their eShop accounts to a Club Nintendo account (do that here) — and then purchase one of five select titles on the system’s eShop digital store — will receive a download code for Donkey Kong: Original Edition by email.

The five promotional games:

  • Art Academy: Lessons For Everyone
  • Cross Words Plus
  • Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask
  • Paper Mario: Stick Star
  • Style Savvy: Trendsetters

What makes this Donkey Kong so original?

Well, you might not know that the Donkey Kong port for the 8-bit Nintendo Entertainment System was actually missing an entire level. Nintendo dropped the cement factory stage due to memory constraints on those old gray cartridges. It’s finally back in this version.

If Donkey Kong: Original Edition sounds familiar to you, that’s probably because you’re from a European PAL-television region. Nintendo first included this restored version with special 25th anniversary Wii bundles in certain countries on that continent.
