China hands down two sentences in Razer counterfeit ring bust

Sometimes the life of a gaming company is a bit more exciting than press releases and product testing.

Razer, which specializes in computers and accessories designed for gamers, worked with police Shanghai to bust a counterfeiting ring that was creating thousands of imitation Razer products.

Haikui Lin and Ping Gong, two men arrested with relation to the counterfeiting were sentenced today. Each got a year in prison and were fined 140,000 Renminbi ($22,560.27) and must pay an additional 150,000RMB ($24176.98) fine to Razer.

“Counterfeit goods put a huge toll on innovation and growth across many industries worldwide,” says Min-Liang Tan, Razer’s chief executive officer and a cofounder, in a press release sent to GamesBeat. “By investing in bringing down these operations, Razer hopes to set an example that this kind of criminal activity will not be tolerated.”
