This is the second time SuperCell and GungHo teamed up for an event like this. In June, the pair launched a nearly identical cross promotion. Although, this is the first time the two are working in tandem since GungHo — in partnership with Japanese investment company SoftBank — acquired a majority stake in SuperCell for $1.53 billion.
Puzzle & Dragons is one of the top-grossing mobile games in Japan. In May, it was generating $3.75 million every day in revenue and nearly 10 percent of Japan’s population had an account for the game.
Clash of Clans, meanwhile, is a major success in the U.S. and around the world. The strategy title is currently the second highest-grossing app on iOS just behind Candy Crush Saga.
