If you’ve spent any time with Clash of Clans, you’ve probably sent hundreds — if not thousands — of troops to their doom. Well, developer Supercell just released a 360-degree video that shows you what it’s like to have to actually fight in these battles.
The Clash of Clans account on YouTube uploaded a new video today called “Clash of Clans 360: Experience a Virtual Reality Raid.” This 83-second clip puts you inside a battle right next to an archer as waves of enemies attack — all in VR. You’ll see what a giant, dragon, and more all look like from the first-person perspective. This is another example of a major company dabbling with virtual reality as a way of promoting its brand. With Clash of Clans still at the top of the grossing charts on iOS and Android, Supercell can afford to experiment with how it markets its money-printing mobile megahit.

You can then use your mouse to scroll around the world to get a different vantage point on the action whenever you want. But Supercell built this video specifically for the YouTube mobile app. This means you can use your smartphones built-in sensors to look around the world by moving the phone. Additionally, you can even pop your handset into a Google Cardboard, Samsung Gear VR, or another type of head-mounted display to experience the video in virtual reality.

This is, of course, a promotion for Clash of Clans. Supercell isn’t the first company to take advantage of this technology. We’ve previously seen film studio Lucasfilm partner with Facebook to promote the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens with a 360-degree video.
These slightly interactive videos are already popular, and we’ll continue to see media companies use this tech to promote their non-VR properties.
