The Nintendo Entertainment System (or Family Computer in Japan) is 30 years old on July 15. To celebrate this momentous occasion, Nintendo started the Wii U Virtual Console Trial Campaign.

This campaign started today with the NES battle game Balloon Fight. The best part is that these Virtual Console games introduce the capability to play retro titles using the GamePad’s off-TV play functionality.
Each game is available at the reduced price for 30 days. Here’s the full list:
- January: Balloon Fight
- Febuary: F-Zero
- March: Punch-Out!!
- April: Kirby’s Adventure
- May: Super Metroid
- June: Yoshi
- July: Donkey Kong
This probably the first time anyone will have the chance to get Super Metroid, one of the Super Nintendo’s best games, for 30 cents.
Nintendo’s full Virtual Console store arrives on Wii U in the spring with an update that will address load-time issues.
