LAS VEGAS — Grim Fandango isn’t the only old LucasArts game that is returning from its grave thanks to Sony.
Day of the Tentacle is getting updated and rereleased for PlayStation hardware. Sony Computer Entertainment made the announcement during its PlayStation Experience show in Las Vegas today. Day of the Tentacle is an adventure game that has players controlling multiple characters through a comedic time-travel story. It first debuted in 1993 for PC and is a beloved classic in the adventure game genre.

At the Electronic Entertainment Expo tradeshow in Los Angeles in June, Sony revealed it is aiding in the production of an updated Grim Fandango, which is a 1998 noir adventure that has you taking the role of a skeleton travel agent.
Day of the Tentacle and Grim Fandango are two of the biggest games that Double Fine chief executive officer Tim Schafer oversaw while at LucasArts.
A big part of getting Day of the Tentacle and Grim Fandango updated is getting the rights worked out. Sony aided in that process with the Walt Disney Company. LucasArts founder George Lucas (of Star Wars fame) sold Star Wars, Lucas Film, and LucasArts to Disney for $4 billion in 2012. Disney has already jumped into its plans for new Star Wars films, but now Day of the Tentacle and Grim Fandango show that Disney won’t let LucasArts’ games rot in some vault.
