Polish development company Techland is expanding into North America.

Techland, the developer responsible for Dead Island, is opening a studio in Vancouver, Canada. The company is calling the new branch Digital Scapes Studios. Former Radical Entertainment (Prototype 2) technical director Marcin Chady will lead Digital Scapes as managing director.

“Starting a studio in Canada opens up a wide range of new opportunities in the realm of game development,” Techland founder Pawel Marchewka said in a statement.

Prior to this expansion, Techland only had two locations, and both are in Poland. Its headquarters is in Warsaw, and it has a secondary studio in Wroclaw. Digital Scapes will join a booming game-development business in Vancouver.

“In operating our business in Vancouver area, we have access to a deep talent pool and quality of educated employees,” Chady said.

The new studio is going to work immediately on creating “key elements” of Techland’s new game Dying Light for publisher Warner Bros. Dying Light is a zombie-survival game that features frenetic parkour gameplay. It’s due out in 2014 for current- and next-gen system. Check out Dying Light gameplay below:
