Bungie’s already talking about its Destiny sequel, and it’s confirmed that progress from the original game will carry over.

The shared-world first-person shooter only launched three months ago, but developer Bungie’s already making the first sequel in a franchise it hopes will span 10 years. Community manager David Dague told IGN that player characters from Destiny will transfer over to the sequel when it releases, giving hardcore players another reason to stick with the franchise as it expands.

“For Destiny 2, the idea is that the Guardian that you have created is something you can bring along with you on that adventure,” said Dague. “If you take a look at the way people have played other games for a long period of time, they’ve had a relationship with the same character for a very long time.”

On a personal note, Dague explained his own attachment to his Destiny character: “I’m hoping that I have a long story relationship with my Dead Orbit-loyal Warlock. I’ve gotten a little bit attached to that little guy.”

Bungie has since confirmed to IGN that your progress will definitely carry over to the sequel.

Dague also revealed that Bungie is hard at work on the Destiny sequel, despite the fact that Destiny’s first downloadable content pack, The Dark Below, is only out this week.

“We have a ten-year plan for the expansion and evolution of this franchise, and it’s something that we’re always dreaming about,” said Dague. “I’ve see new concept art [for Destiny 2]; I’ve seen new exotic weapons up on people’s screens. It’s a lot of fun to walk around the studio because there’s always somebody thinking about visions for the future. The next place you’ll go, the next enemy that you’ll fight, the next thing you’ll earn for doing those things.”
