On Friday, Eidos Montreal studio head Stephane D’Astous announced his resignation from the developer. Today, the Deus Ex: Human Revolution developer elaborated on his reasons for leaving, according to Gamasutra.
D’Astous cited issues with Square Enix management as the primary motivator in convincing him to move on from the company.
“Since last year’s financial shortcoming performance of Square Enix Europe, [Square Enix and Eidos Montreal] have had growing and divergent opinions on what needed to be done to correct the situation,” D’Astous told Develop. “The lack of leadership, the lack of courage, and the lack of communication were so evident that I wasn’t able to conduct my job properly. I realized that our differences were irreconcilable and that the best decision was unfortunately to part ways.”

Eidos Montreal released Deus Ex: Human Revolution in 2011. In 2013, the studio worked on the multiplayer for the Tomb Raider reboot. The developer is currently working on a reboot of the stealth-action series Thief for 2014.
Square Enix announced a major restructuring in March due to disappointing sales of games like Tomb Raider. That’s despite the fact that the latest Tomb Raider was the fastest-selling game in the franchise’s history. Also in March, company president Yoichi Wada resigned and, in April, Square Enix began cutting jobs in Europe.
