Disney Interactive has launched its Disney Infinity: Toy Box 2.0 mobile app for the iPhone and iPad.

The new app delivers both multiplayer and better quality graphics to players of Disney Infinity 2.0, the toy-game hybrid that is Disney’s big entry in the transmedia space, or cross-media entertainment. The move shows that Disney is putting more emphasis on mobile games, which have become a $25 billion worldwide market, according to market researcher Newzoo.

Disney said the free-to-play app features all of the tools and enhanced features of Toy Box 2.0 from Disney Infinity (2.0 edition), where players can create their own characters and game worlds. It also offers new multiplayer functionality for mobile gamers, who can create their own one-of-a-kind Toy Boxes with their favorite Marvel and Disney characters.

The game also uses the Apple iOS 8 Metal graphics engine’s processing power to deliver a console-like game experience on iOS.

“With the Disney Infinity: Toy Box 2.0 app, we wanted to give our fans the chance to build and play console-quality Toy Boxes on their tablets and smartphones, and Metal allows us to offer the highest quality Disney Infinity experience, whether players are already on console or coming to the game exclusively through their mobile devices,” said John Blackburn, the senior vice president and general manager of Disney Infinity, in a statement. “Disney Infinity’s mobile players have been some of our most engaged in our community, with iPad users downloading and uploading more Toy Boxes than all other platforms combined over the past year.”

With Toy Box 2.0, gamers can transfer their creations across platforms and edit or play them on the new device. The game also brings Marvel Super Heroes with some of Marvel’s characters from The Avengers, Spider-Man, and Guardians of the Galaxy universes.

Players can now build and play simultaneously in a Toy Box on their mobile devices online with Wi-Fi connection.
