It's back.

Well, it worked before.

The sequel to one of Kickstarter’s most successful gaming projects, Divinity: Original Sin, is returning to the crowdfunding site on August 26 to launch a campaign for a sequel. The first Divinity: Original Sin, a role-playing game for PC (a console version comes out for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One later this year), earned $944,282, much more than the original $400,000 goal.

Developer Larian Studios launched a site for the game today that will allow viewers to vote for what kind of awards the Kickstarter will give to backers. Larain also announced that a prototype for Divinity: Original Sin II will be playable at the PAX Prime convention in Seattle from August 28 to 31.

Larian attributed the success of the first Divinity (which it says was its most popular game ever) to the fact that it listened to the community that Kickstarted it while in development. It’s not surprising to see them return to the site for the sequel. It’s also not unprecedented for an RPG studio to fund multiple projects on Kickstarter. Developer inXile has had successful campaigns for Wasteland 2, Torment: Tides of Numenera, and The Bard’s Tale IV.
