The creators of the Corona software-development kit revealed that the creator of games like Wolfenstein 3D and Doom have joined their advisory panel.

John Romero, who came to fame in the 1990s as one of the brains behind Id Software, will help guide Corona Labs as it moves forward with improvements for its Corona SDK development platform.

Corona SDK is a software engine that developers can use to create mobile games for iOS and Android.

“Developing with Corona has been something that really supports the way that I know game development should be done,” Romero said in a video on Corona Labs’ website. “Which means extremely fast iteration and being able to debut — that’s super, super important.”

Romero explains more of the benefits of Corona SDK in the video, which you can see below:

Romero began his career making shooters like Doom, Wolfenstein 3D, and Quake for id Software. In the late ’90s, he left Id to form Ion Storm in Dallas, Texas. He went on to release Daikatana, which many consider a huge disappointment.

In the 2000s, Romero moved into mobile and Facebook development. He currently holds several positions, including creative director of the University of Califorina, Santa Cruz’s game design program under his wife, Brenda Romero, who is the program’s director.
