Electronic Arts is a smaller company today after its latest round of job cuts.

[Update: We hear that the layoffs are about 10 percent of the total staff of EA, or perhaps 900 of the company’s 9,000 or so jobs].
“In recent weeks, EA has aligned all elements of its organizational structure behind priorities in new technologies and mobile,” an EA spokesperson wrote. “This has led to some difficult decisions to reduce the workforce in some locations. We are extremely grateful for the contributions made by each of our employees – those that are leaving EA will be missed by their colleagues and friends.
“These are hard but essential changes as we focus on delivering great games and showing players around the world why to spend their time with us.”
GamesBeat reached out to EA and asked it to clarify the scale of the cuts and will update with its response.
This comes during a time of transition for EA. Long-time chief executive officer John Riccitiello stepped down in March. Executive chairman Larry Probst u is currently handling his responsibilities while the board looks for a replacement.
This third round of layoffs at EA since February. On Feb. 21, EA whacked away at Army of Two: The Devil’s Cartel developer Visceral Montreal with the layoff ax. In March, the company cut jobs at EA Mobile Montreal.
