A widely reported rumor claims Electronic Arts is pulling the plug on the Dead Space franchise, but that isn’t the case according to the publisher.

GamesBeat asked EA specifically about the rumor that Dead Space 3 sales led it to cancel the space-horror series going forward, and a spokesperson provided the following response:

[The rumors are] patently false. While we have not released sales data for Dead Space 3, we are proud of the game, and Dead Space continues to be an important [property] to EA.

The spokesperson went on to call the rumors “baseless.”

Videogamer.com claims to have an anonymous source that says Dead Space 4 was in preproduction at developer Visceral Games but that EA canceled the title due to disappointing Dead Space 3 numbers.

EA didn’t confirm Dead Space 4’s existence to GamesBeat, but it did confirm that it isn’t abandoning the sci-fi franchise.
